CHAMPS

In partnership with the Vietnamese NGO PeaceTrees Vietnam (PTVN), MLI launched a CHAMPS project in Vietnam in 2010, during which almost 3,000 people living in vulnerable communities received Mine Risk Education (MRE). MLI succeeded in engaging American and Vietnamese students in the landmine issue by linking two schools in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam (LeHong Phong Secondary School and Le Loi Secondary School) with two American schools. The students worked together to support mine-action in Vietnam and, as a result of the fundraising efforts of one of the American schools, The Evergreen School in Seattle, WA, three landmine survivors in Quang Tri Province were assisted. The three teenage mine survivors received vocational training and prosthetic limbs, enabling them to continue their education and pursue gainful employment opportunities.
