To date, MLI has provided 142 lifesaving dogs to sniff out mines in the neediest of countries. Here's what we accomplished in the past year alone:
2 more MDDs were donated to Bosnia and are now actively working
15 more MDDs were donated to Afghanistan and are now actively working
12 more MDDs were donated to Lebanon and are now actively working
CHAMPS International deepened its involvement in Afghanistan, pairing U.S. schools with Roshan High School in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. The schools videoconference regularly and have exchanged care packages!
CHAMPS International launched in Lebanon . The program kicked off with a summer 2009 videoconference between teachers attending a summer seminar in Texas and Lebanese students and mine survivors living in a heavily mine affected region.
CHAMPS International launched in Vietnam . Students from Washington State joined their Vietnamese peers in May 2010 for a CHAMPS camp out!
CHAMPS Connecticut sponsored a survivor through a January 2010 Dive-a-Thon and CHAMPS Texas sponsored MDD Texas and plan to sponsor a survivor through their spring 2010 campaign.
MLI completed its Survivors’ Assistance: Azerbaijan program, which aimed to supply mine survivors and their family members with vocational training. Twelve new graduates of the Ganja City Regional Resource Center were fully-trained in weaving, sewing, and tailoring techniques. Sewing machines were provided to the most accomplished new grads and an embroidery machine was donated to the center by MLI as well.
