Our History

Founding:

The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) is a Virginia-based, international, nonprofit humanitarian organization founded in the 50th Anniversary Year of the Marshall Plan to extend the vision of Nobel Peace Laureate George C. Marshall to address 21st Century problems.

Focus:

In particular, MLI is assisting nations in establishing affordable and sustainable programs to eradicate landmines. We work to restore hope, alleviate suffering, and nurture stability in war-torn countries. MLIs three major programs are the K9 Demining Corps (K9DC), the Survivors’ Assistance program and the Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS). Since 2001, MLI has provided over 140 life-saving, mine-sniffing dogs to countries around the world.

Future:

We continue to work to alleviate suffering and restore hope for mine survivors, as well as the millions of people whose daily lives are affected by landmines.

Incorporated in March 1997 for charitable, education and humanitarian purposes, MLI is a tax-exempt organization under IRS Code 501(c)(3).
